Lifeguards Can Maintain a Strong Immune System by Using Zinc

As a lifeguard, you’re constantly on the go and using your muscles to get the job done — so it’s incredibly important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. How? One tried-and-true way to build and maintain a strong immune system is with zinc. Read on!

What is zinc?

Zinc is a mineral naturally found in a variety of foods. It plays a role in DNA creation, cell growth and the building of protein. It’s really necessary for growth, so it’s recommended when teens are going through growth spurts or when women are carrying a pregnancy. Because zinc plays a critical role in growth and healing processes, it’s also an important way to build and maintain a healthy immune system.

What foods contain zinc?

One food that is especially high in zinc: Oysters! If you’re an oyster-lover, great news for you. If not, no worries. You’ll also get a healthy dose of zinc from beef, pumpkin seeds, crab, almonds, and cheese. Another way to get zinc is by taking a zinc supplement or a daily vitamin that contains it.

Can zinc really maintain a strong immune system?

Sicknesses happen, so while we can’t promise you that a daily dose of zinc will ward off all health issues, we can take every step possible to sustain a healthy body. It’s still important to take care of your body in other ways, in addition to consuming zinc — like drinking water, getting good rest, and eating a healthy diet.
