What are the top job perks of being a lifeguard

When starting out a new job, one of the first questions asked is, “What are the perks?” Now, we’re not saying you should only think about your job perks, but it’s always good to know ahead of time what to expect — and what you may not be able to expect. As a lifeguard, a lot of the perks are built-in. Check them out!

Work outside

Being able to work outside at a pool or the beach is a perk in itself. Sure, some days aren’t so great — but most of the time, working outside is nice. It gives you a chance to get outside, be around people (safely!), and soak up your daily dose of Vitamin D.

Learn invaluable leadership and teamwork skills

No matter what career path you venture down, leadership and teamwork are important skills to possess. Does everyone have them from the get-go? No! But you, as a lifeguard, will grow as a leader and teammate — and that makes a huge difference when you’re moving forward with your lifelong career.

Wear comfortable uniform

Let’s face it, not all work attire is comfortable. As a lifeguard, you trade in your button-down and slacks for a breathable lifeguard T-shirt or one-piece.

Make friends

Working in an intense, high-pressure environment has its perks, and one of those is the fact that you’ll quickly make friends with your fellow lifeguards.

The list could go on and on, but we’ll stop it right here. Now that you know a few perks of being a lifeguard, let’s come back to the best one: Saving lives. Yep, that’s right. How many people can say they go to work every day to save lives?
